Southside Fire Volunteer Department and Rescue Squad
How to Join
Our department excepts anyone over the age of 16. Anyone who is interested in
joining may print the appropriate application below. We welcome any and everyone
with any firefighting experience but that is not required. We hold in house training
and attend state sponsored schools. All necessary equipment is provided including
bunker gear, radio or pager, and any other necessary equipment. All training is paid
for by the department.
Positions are as follows:

Junior Firefighters: Ages 16 - 18
Must have parents permission
Must maintain passing grades in school

Firefighter: Ages 18 and above
Must live in Unicoi County
Must have a valid drivers licence
Must be willing to submit to and pass a background check
Must be willing to pull 24 hours of station standby a month


Ladies Axillary: Ages 16 and above
Must have a family member with Southside Fire Department


Firefighter Reserve Program: Ages 18 and above
Must have previous Firefighting training and experience
Must live within 30 minutes of any station
Must be willing to pull 24 hours of station standby a month
